WWFM features Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Cleveland Orchestra
On Tuesday, August 28 at 10pm EDT, Jed Distler’s Between the Keys program will feature Garrick Ohlsson in Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2.
In 2002, the Cleveland Orchestra brought out a limited edition box set celebrating Christoph von Dohnanyi’s tenure as their music director, featuring previously unreleased live broadcast recordings, with Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2 among them. Between the Keys will close with the concerto’s finale. Jed Distler describes it as “an unusually lithe, texturally transparent and chamber-like performance that is one of the most exciting and fulfilling performances of this work I’ve ever encountered.” Also included in the program is a performance by the conductor’s grandfather, Ernst von Dohnanyi, on two pianos with his former student and close colleague Edward Kilenyi in a really rare recording from the early 1950s.
