Honens’ 2018 Mentor-in-Residence

Garrick Ohlsson will be in Canada in late summer taking a key role during the Honens’ International Piano Competition. He will be Honens’ 2018 Mentor-in-Residence, and on September 4, will delight audiences in a solo recital of Brahms and Chopin in the Jack Singer Concert Hall at Arts Commens.

The Honens’ International Piano Competition takes place every 3 years and will be held from August 30 until September 8. In addition to the financial awards, the Honens’ Prize Laureate receives an artistic and career development program valued at a half-million dollars.

As a Mentor-in-Residence, Mr Ohlsson will offer coaching sessions to the 7 semi-finalists who don’t advance to the Finals. He will meet with each Finalist to share ideas and then hear each of them perform with the Azahar Ensemble and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Karina Canellakis.
