Performances to end the year
This upcoming month, Garrick Ohlsson travels to Lyon to play a Brahms and Chopin recital at the Salle Molière on December 4, followed by a concert on December 6 in Tallinn with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, in which he plays Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Also included in the program are Szpilman’s Little Overture, Musgrave’s Song of the Enchanter and Sibelius’ Symphony No. 1.
On December 11, he performs at Bourgie Hall in Montréal. This is the third recital in a series of four, in which Mr. Ohlsson plays the complete works for piano by Johannes Brahms. On this evening the audience will be treated to the tempestuous Rhapsodies, Op. 79, followed by the more desolate Op. 116 Fantasies before delving into the fireworks of the second book of Brahms’ Variations on a Theme of Paganini. Lastly, Brahms’ colossal, five-movement Sonata in F Minor, a piece by turns beguiling and stormy, will serve as the perfect vehicle for Ohlsson’s plush tone and incomparable virtuosity.
Garrick Ohlsson will complete the cycle on April 24. For more information, click here.
For his last performance of the year, on December 15, he will repeat the Canadian program at the Kaufmann Concert Hall in New York City.
