Rachmaninoff with Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra

On March 29, Garrick Ohlsson joins the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra to perform Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, a cornerstone of the Romantic piano repertoire. The program also features Anna Clyne’s Masquerade and selections from Prokofiev’s Romeo & Juliet.

Mr. Ohlsson has earned high praise for his interpretation of Rachmaninoff’s concerto. Following a performance of the work with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, critics noted: “Ohlsson gave audiences something much subtler and more difficult to achieve: a performance of this most archly Romantic of piano concertos that seemed to efface the interpreter’s ego entirely.”

This marks Ohlsson’s return to Kalamazoo, having previously performed at the Gilmore Piano Festival in 2002 and for the KSO’s season-opening concert in 2010.
