On February 16, Garrick Ohlsson appears in recital for InConcert Sierra in Grass Valley, CA, playing a program that includes work by Haydn, Chopin, Samuel Barber, and Thomas Mission.
The program opens with Haydn’s bright and energetic Sonata in C Major, Hob.XVI:50, followed by Mission’s Convocations, a piece written for Ohlsson, and Barber’s lyric Piano Sonata in E-flat Minor, Op. 26.
The second half features a number of pieces by Chopin, including his Impromptu in A Flat, Op 29, Barcarolle, Op. 60. Nocturne, Op. 62, and Scherzo in B Flat Minor, Op. 31. The first and only American to win the gold medal in the International Chopin Piano Competition, Ohlsson is one of the world’s leading exponents of Chopin’s music.
