November Concerts in Cleveland and Madison
This November, Garrick Ohlsson embarks on a series of performances with the Cleveland Orchestra and the Madison Symphony Orchestra in works by Beethoven and Grieg.
On November 9 and 12, Mr. Ohlsson performs Beethoven’s Piano Concertos No. 2 and No. 4 with the Cleveland Orchestra as part of their Beethoven Concerto Cycle, a special series running from November 6–17. The two concertos are emblematic of Beethoven’s artistic evolution, with the first exuding youthful charm and classical finesse, while the second reveals a profound, lyrical maturity that reshaped the concerto tradition.
On November 15, 16, and 17, he joins the Madison Symphony Orchestra for his eighth appearance with the ensemble. Conducted by Michael Stern, Ohlsson will perform Grieg’s beloved Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16, a romantic work brimming with the spirit of Norway’s landscapes. The program also features Jonathan Leshnoff’s Rush for Orchestra and Shostakovich’s stirring Symphony No. 5.
